Students choosing to audition for the Region 3 Junior High String Ensemble may choose to follow the modified audition requirements listed below rather than prepare the full requirements as published for the All State Intermediate Orchestra (ASIO).
The required scales are the same as the All State list. However, the ranges have been reduced for the Region 3 auditions. The violin, viola, and cello scales must be played a minimum of 2 octaves instead of 3 octaves, with the student having the option of playing the 3rd octave. The scales for the bass will be 1 octave minimum with the option of playing the 2nd octave.
The required solos are the same as the All State list. However, Region 3 will not require the entire solo; the required sections to prepare are below and the audition will be selected from the listed sections.
Violin: Veracini Sonata in e minor, Op.2 No.8 (Allegro con Fuoco) – from beginning to repeat sign in middle of line 8.
Viola: Marais Old French Dances La Provencale and La Basque) – Le Basque – Measure 28 through measure 48; La Provencale -Beginning through Measure 48.
Cello: Squire Danse Rustique – from measure 5 through measure 50
Bass: Simandl Etude No.6 – Beginning of line 6 to the end.
If a student is accepted into the Region ensemble and plans to audition for ASIO in March, the student MUST prepare all scales and solos for that audition as listed in the All State requirements.
